FAQ

How long is a trademark registration valid?

The registration of a trademark is valid in most countries in the world for a period of 10 years from the filing date (= date of application for registration).

After the lapse of those 10 years, the registration can be extended indefinitely for additional periods of 10 years, each time after payment of the renewal fees.

In certain countries the scheme is different: either the period of validity is different, or the period is calculated from the date of registration (= the date on which the registration procedure was completed).

Finally, in addition to renewing the registration, there are other conditions to keep your trademark rights valid, such as the normal use of a trademark.
