Ellen Crabbe is a European and Belgian Patent Attorney and partner at brantsandpatents. She obtained a PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Ghent and worked as a postdoctoral researcher.
Ellen makes sure that patents are not an obscure thing for her customers. A good patent strategy always starts with a well-drawn plan and clear explanations, taking into account the needs and the business of the customer.
Ellen advises clients in all areas of patents. Her activities include drafting patent applications and handling grant procedures, conducting opposition and appeal procedures, as well as advising clients on patentability, freedom to operate and infringement. She also has considerable knowledge regarding the fiscal aspects and advantages of patents.
Ellen has extensive experience in the protection of plants, both in terms of patents and plant breeders' rights, and has assisted clients in appeal procedures at the CPVO in Angers and at the European Court of Justice.
In addition, Ellen has thorough experience in the field of Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPC) for pharmaceuticals and plant protection products and defends the rights of customers.
Ellen was and is involved in numerous IP litigations at home and abroad and has experience with opposition, infringement and invalidity proceedings. The interface between patents and tax benefits also holds no secrets for her.
Her area of expertise is general engineering sciences, life sciences (including molecular biology, plant (bio) technology, pharmacy, chemistry, food and nutrition industry) and plant breeders' rights.
Ellen is fluent in Dutch and English and has an excellent knowledge of French and a good working knowledge of German.
