FAQ

When is an invention novel?

For patentable inventions, absolute novelty is required. This means that before the date of filing of the patent application (or before the priority date), the invention may not be made public, or have been, anywhere in the world. Furthermore, a public announcement by the inventor him or herself will mean it is no longer possible to grant a patent, at least in most countries.
